Independent Study Online and Personalized Learning (IS OPL):

 

What is IS OPL?

  • Online and Personalized Learning is a full-time EMUHSD program that allows students to work on courses at an individualized pace in a fully online setting, while remaining enrolled at an EMUHSD School.

  • Instead of attending class in a traditional school setting, IS OPL students work on courses from any Internet enabled location.

  • Instead of attending class according to a traditional "8:00-3:00" bell schedule, IS OPL students are only required to attend 2-hour online work sessions. Students are expected to complete the majority of their classwork according to their own schedules.

  • For added support, IS OPL students are assigned a dedicated Mentor Teacher, in addition to teachers for specific courses.

Who should enroll in IS OPL?

  • Students seeking a fully online program or in need of a non-traditional school environment may benefit from participating as IS OPL students.

  • Students who are self-motivated and independent may benefit as IS OPL students.

How does IS OPL work and what are the classes like?

  • Students login to their OPL courses from any Internet-enabled location and work at their own pace.

  • Instruction for each course is delivered through video and supported by a fully credentialed EMUHSD teacher. 

  • Assignments and activities are completed online and students receive regular feedback.

  • Each course has a different teacher, based on content expertise.

Do IS OPL Students take multiple courses at once?

  • Yes. Just as students in a traditional setting take multiple courses at once, IS OPL students also take multiple courses at once.

Can IS OPL Students participate in regular school activities such as clubs and athletics?

  • Yes. IS OPL Students remain enrolled at a home school and are eligible to receive all of the same supports and services as other students attending that school.

  • Students seeking to enroll in IS OPL should contact their school Counselors.

Part-time Online and Personalized Learning (OPL):

 

What is Part-time OPL?

  • Part-time OPL is when an EMUHSD student is a full-time student at a home-site, but is taking OPL courses on an after-school basis. 

  • Students may participate in Part-time OPL as a Credit Recovery or Original Credit student. Credit recovery is available to students who receive a grade of D or F when first attempting a course in-person. Original Credit courses are available if a student's home school does not offer a specific course.

Who should enroll in Part-time OPL?

  • Students who need to take additional classes outside of the traditional school day can benefit from Part-time OPL.
